The extension programs attached to Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia do Triângulo Mineiro- IFTM are regarded as the educational, cultural and scientific process, indissolubly linked to teaching and research, extending the transforming relationship by the Institute in a variety of social areas and promoting local and regional development, culture socialization and technical-scientific knowledge.
Considering the goals of the federal institutes, the extension programs shall be understood as a space for the articulation of knowledge and socioeconomic, cultural and environmental realities of the region, where education, science and technology are linked together with the prospect of local and regional development, leading to the necessary academic life interaction.
The extension programs deepen the connections between the Institute and society, reaching alternatives for the transformation of reality by building and strengthening citizenship in a democratic and socially fair political environment, throughout guidelines aimed at meeting the demands which comes from different public policy which reaches social needs.
IFTM extension actions seek to comply with the principles of citizenship, fairness, justice, respect and dignity, striving for ethics in their institutional and interpersonal relationships, adding, therefore, institutional and social responsibility.
The extension programs express the interaction that must exist between the educational institutions and the community in which they are inserted. By exchanging knowledge, these academic and non-academic relations allow the development of projects that can benefit both society and educational institutions.
Furthermore, it contributes to the process of raising awareness and to the promotion of changes, and its multidisciplinary approach enables the exchange of knowledge and the reformulation of already learned concepts.
Thereby, the professional formation of citizens takes place and it is increasingly intensified along with the society as a privileged space of knowledge production, and well as the overcoming of social exclusion and existing social inequalities, which occur both through information sharing and availability of services.
Thus, the idea of extension is associated to the concept that the knowledge generated by educational institutions must necessarily have the intention to transform social reality, intervening on its weaknesses instead of restraining actions to the formation of regular students of the institution.
The educational institution has the opportunity to bring the knowledge it holds to the community through extension programs acting as a knowledge socializing and democratizing board, going beyond the traditional perception of knowledge dissemination, service delivery and cultural diffusion. There is the effective participation of the community in the actions of the educational institution itself and therefore the production of knowledge through extension is made by means of exchanging systematic, scholarly and popular knowledge.
The general purpose of extension actions promoted by IFTM aim to provide knowledge and experiences produced in the academic environment, optimizing the direct and indirect use of this knowledge and these experiences by several segments of society.
The extension actions guidelines, following the National Plan of Extension, are arranged in four axes: The Inseparability of teaching - research - extension; Interdisciplinarity; Dialogic interaction; Impact and transformation.
Policies extension in IFTM are crucial for the consolidation of extension as an educational, cultural and scientific process that articulates teaching and research in an indissoluble way and enables the transforming relationship between the institution and the society.
From the challenges diagnosed, the extension has the following perspectives: strengthening the inter-relationship between teaching, research and extension; continuous improvement of the extension activities, traineeship programs, keeping track of former students and students’ assistance; expanding the supply of government programs under the extension in IFTM, strengthening the relationship with the plaintiffs government extension programs; attending the demands of the community covered by the IFTM by insertion of students and former students in the labor market; applied knowledge diffusion by the scope of IFTM community.Fim do conteúdo da página
